Classic 1980s Gretsch USA model 4158WR 5x14 snare, square badge, Jasper maple/gum shell, in Rosewood nitro finish.
Another classic 4158 that absolutely nails the dry, articulate “Great Gretsch Sound” with plenty of body when you dig in.
The shell is in great structural shape: in‑round, edges are clean, no ply separation or warping, and the interior paper tag is intact and legible (model 4158WR, serial 50,363).
Chrome 10‑lug hardware, original‑style throw‑off and butt, and classic Gretsch Permatone reso side are all present and functioning smoothly. Cosmetically it shows light, honest wear for a 40‑plus‑year‑old drum but nothing that affects performance; the natural lacquer has aged into a warm, even blonde that looks fantastic under lights.
Heads are existing Remo Permatone but can be upgraded to Evans G1, G2, or UV1 batter on top) and Gretsch Permatone snare‑side on the bottom reso (with upgrades to G1 for the reso), so it’s truly “pull from the box and play the session or the gig” ready. It tunes up easily from crisp studio crack to fatter medium tunings without choking, and it blends beautifully with vintage and modern Gretsch kits alike.
This drum is offered on the Infusionry site at $655 + actual shipping. The bundle listing with the 1982 Drop‑g badge 14"x22" natural maple bass drum (which is at $575 solo), is $1111 mostly because I've never priced something with all 1's as a package price for these matching‑era jasper shells, but paired up, I can. If you’re interested in the two, or want to beat the eBay/Reverb pricing (where I have to pad in platform fees), DM me first and I’ll send you the direct checkout link and a precise shipping quote. We have plenty of references with vintage instrument buyers and am happy to share on request.
