Infusionry Grading Method (Working Standard)

SECTION 1 — Core Philosophy

I evaluate vintage instruments through two lenses: player value and collector condition.

Most markets lean too heavily toward one or the other.

My goal is to bridge both—so pricing reflects how an instrument actually performs, not just how it looks.

SECTION 2 — The 4 Criteria

1. Tone & Response (Primary Driver)

IThe most important factor.
How the drum speaks at different tunings, how it responds under the stick, and whether it delivers the expected character of its era and build.

A visually imperfect drum with exceptional tone will always grade higher than a pristine one that feels flat or choked.

2. Structural Integrity

Shell condition, roundness, bearing edges, hardware function, and overall stability.

Clean edges and true shells can elevate a piece significantly—even if cosmetic wear is present.

3. Originality vs Restoration

Balance between originality and thoughtful restoration.

  • Original parts increase collector value
  • Smart restoration (heads, tuning, minor hardware work) increases player value

I consider both—not blindly favoring one over the other.

4. Cosmetic Condition

Chrome, wrap, finish, and visible wear.

This affects grading—but is weighted below tone and structure.

Honest wear is expected.
Severe damage or neglect lowers grade accordingly.

SECTION 3 — Pricing Logic

Pricing is based on real market comps across Reverb, eBay, and private sales.

From there, I adjust based on:

  • Tone quality relative to similar listings
  • Structural condition (often underreported in listings)
  • Opportunity for improvement (tuning, heads, setup)

In many cases, I’m able to increase an instrument’s effective value through setup and presentation—typically by 1–2 grading points.

SECTION 4 — The “White Whale”

Finding undervalued vintage pieces is increasingly rare in a fully networked market.

When those opportunities appear, they’re reflected in pricing—but also in how the instrument is positioned and presented for its next owner.

SECTION 5 — Trades / Broker Position

I’m open to trades, partial trades, and select commission listings—especially for vintage drums and related pieces.

The goal is to create a more transparent and collaborative market—without the heavy fees of traditional platforms.
